A WALLSEND family bakery has stopped making its most popular lines: banana bread and banana cake.
Owner of Faye's Cakes, Leanne Parrott, said she could not afford to buy over-ripe bananas, which were normally supplied to her for between $5 and $10 a box but now cost about $30 a box."That would mean a loaf of banana bread would cost about $20," Mrs Parrott said. She said her banana bread normally sold for $10 and her banana cake for $8.Mrs Parrott said the ones that were available were "not your normal nice banana". They were too green for her bread and cakes, which had been her most popular products. Frances Thompson
