Fruitless Job Takes The Cake

A WALLSEND family bakery has stopped making its most popular lines: banana bread and banana cake.

Owner of Faye's Cakes, Leanne Parrott, said she could not afford to buy over-ripe bananas, which were normally supplied to her for between $5 and $10 a box but now cost about $30 a box.

"That would mean a loaf of banana bread would cost about $20," Mrs Parrott said.

She said her banana bread normally sold for $10 and her banana cake for $8.

Mrs Parrott said the ones that were available were "not your normal nice banana". They were too green for her bread and cakes, which had been her most popular products.
